Carlton midfielder Brock McLean says the third quarter of Saturday's clash with Greater Western Sydney brought out the best in the Blues.

"Our intensity lifted when we had the ball and we were a lot smarter. When we didn't have the ball we worked a lot harder and it showed on the scoreboard."

It's been a good year for McLean, who picked up 27 disposals in the GWS match.

"My body is feeling good and mentally I'm in a good place. I'm really enjoying my footy."

Looking ahead to Friday's Round 11 match against Essendon, McLean says the boys are ready for the challenge.

"It will be a really good test to see where we are at physically and mentally. If we can continue with the good form, then I'm sure it will be a cracker of a game."
