Carlton Captain Marc Murphy will be out for up to three weeks, following surgery today.

Murphy had surgery to have a plate inserted in his cheek, after suffering a fracture in a clash with Hawthorn skipper Luke Hodge during Friday night's match at Etihad Stadium.

Doctors say the surgery went well, and Murphy will need between two and three weeks to recover.

Carlton has a bye in round 13.

It means Murphy will miss the round 14 clash with Sydney at the SCG, but he could be back in time for the Pratt Cup against Collingwood.
