Mick Malthouse says Sam Rowe re-signing with Carlton for another year is fantastic news for him, his family and the Club.

"Most players have their own story. Sam's is different again. It's so important that he sees a pathway here at Carlton. His efforts in playing senior football have been outstanding. People can take a lead from the way that Sam has approached his illness. His positivity around the place has been fantastic."

With regards to other player's contracts, Malthouse doesn't believe that anyone would choose to leave the Blues.

"It's a very good organisation. We have tried to make the place comfortable. It's an environment where players can prosper in their development. Whilst we're neither top nor bottom of the ladder, we're making our way and the players can see that."

"I'd be disappointed if anyone who is contemplating re-signing at the Club doesn't take the positives of the atmosphere around the place that we have created."

Looking ahead to Friday night's blockbuster against North Melbourne, the Carlton Coach says they must be prepared for the Kangaroos to be at their best.

"I have a high regard for North Melbourne. My encounters against them have always been physical and hard fought. We know that we are in for a solid test."
