Defender Andrew Walker will miss Carlton's Round 2 clash with Richmond at the MCG after accepting a one-match ban for rough conduct.

Walker was reported for throwing Port Adelaide's Angus Monfries into the fence, in the final quarter of Sunday night's match at Etihad Stadium.

Neither player was injured, but the AFL's Match Review Panel assessed the incident as intentional, low impact and body contact.

If Walker challenged the charge and lost he would have risked two matches on the sidelines.

It means the 27-year-old will next be available for selection for Carlton's Round 3 showdown with Essendon.
