Carlton young gun Dylan Buckley has inked a new two-year deal, keeping him at Visy Park until at least the end of the 2016 season.

The 21-year-old, who is the son of Carlton triple-premiership player Jim Buckley, was recruited to Carlton through a father/son selection in the 2011 National Draft.

In Round 3, 2013, Buckley made his debut against Geelong, kicking a goal within a minute of being on the ground. Ahead of this season he made the move to the backline and has established himself as a running defender.

Buckley now has seven AFL games under his belt and earned the AFL’s Rising Star Nomination for Round 2 after gathering an impressive 18 disposals and six tackles against Richmond.

Carlton’s GM – Football Operations Andrew McKay says Buckley is an exciting young player whose pace gives Carlton terrific run off the backline.

“Having supported Carlton his whole life Dylan is very passionate about the club and we’re very happy to have him commit to terms to stay here,” McKay said.

“We’ve certainly seen Dylan grow as a person and a player in his time at Carlton so far. He has worked really hard in the gym to add weight and build strength, and now he is starting to reap the benefits of all his hard work.

“We see Dylan as an integral part of our team in the future.”

Buckley joins a growing list of players who have recommitted to Carlton this year, including Marc Murphy, Kade Simpson and Andrew Walker.
