10. 1981 - Bosustow's Mark & Goal of the Year Carlton Member, Brian Sprague, shares his memories of the spectacular Peter Bosustow
10. 1981 - Peter Bosustow's Mark & Goal of the Year double

The Peter Bosustow fly over noted aerialist David McKay and Geelong’s John Mossop is quite literally up there with the all-time best of football’s great marks. Of added value is the fact that “The Buzz” returned to terra firma on his feet.

It happened at Princes on August 1, 1981, in what was Bruce Doull’s 250th senior appearance and Wayne Johnston’s 50th. This was Bosustow’s first leg of the Mark of the Year-Goal of the Year double and the Cats were on the wrong end of both.

Fast forward to September 12, when the two teams met again in the Second Semi-Final at VFL Park. Big occasion “Buzz” turned it on once more, gathering the footy after smothering Ian Nankervis’ ill-fated clearance kick and snapping a brilliant goal over his shoulder from the pocket.

Not bad for the footballer memorably dubbed “a good ordinary player” by the legendary Jack Dyer.
