5. 1995 - Grand Final Carlton Member, Marco Donnini, shares his memories of the 1995 Grand Final
5. 1995 - Premiership

“Ten minutes into the third quarter I said to the match committee: ‘We can’t lose this game. Let’s sit back and enjoy this. Let’s sit back and watch a fantastic team working together’.”

So said David Parkin (in his second stint as Carlton coach) who sat back and watched – one of 93,670 watching on in captive wonderment – as his players seized the moment and completed their systematic 61-point demolition of Geelong, 21.15 (141) – 11.14 (80), with Greg Williams taking Norm home on his 32nd birthday.

This was Grand Final day, 1995 – the landing of Carlton’s sweet 16th Premiership in what was then 99 years of League competition – and it seemed so breathtakingly easy.

As the great Malcolm Blight, then calling the match for the Seven Network, said of Carlton’s last Grand Final triumph: “The super side of ’95 has shown that on the day that counted most. In fact, I’d go so far as to say it’s probably the super side of the century”.
