Rising Star nominee Troy Menzel has shown his belief in where Carlton is headed by putting pen to paper for a new two-year deal.

The contract extension will keep Menzel in the navy blue until at least the end of 2016.

The exciting young forward was recruited to Carlton with pick No. 11 in the 2012 National Draft. Since making his debut in Round 8, 2013 against Port Adelaide, Menzel has played 23 AFL games and kicked 30 goals.

This season Menzel’s highlights include kicking the match-winning goal against West Coast in Round 6, and earning the Rising Star nomination in Round 16, after booting two goals and taking a career-high eight marks in Carlton’s win over St Kilda.

Carlton’s GM – Football Operations Andrew McKay says he’s delighted Menzel will be staying at Carlton.

“Troy has certainly been an exciting player to watch grow and develop – he’s still only 19 so we believe he has a very bright future ahead,” McKay said.

“He’s a creative player who has a natural ability to find the football, and he is also one of the emerging young leaders at our football club.

“Having Troy recommit to Carlton puts another of the building blocks in place that we believe will take our football club forward.”

Menzel joins Sam Rowe, Marc Murphy, Kade Simpson, Andrew Walker, Bryce Gibbs, Michael Jamison, Tom Bell, Dylan Buckley, and Chris Yarran in re-signing with Carlton this season.
