The Carlton Football Club has unveiled its new guernsey at Visy Park, reverting back to the heritage CFC monogram full time from next season.

The uniform worn by Carlton players during its most successful period, 1927-1997, the heritage guernsey features the CFC monogram that was donned by legends such as Vallence, Hands, Nicholls, Doull, Kernahan and Silvagni.

It was worn three times this past season: Round 7 v Collingwood, Round 13 v Hawthorn and Round 23 v Essendon, as part of the Club’s 150th celebrations.

After receiving plenty of positive feedback about the heritage design, the Blues asked members to decide what jumper they wanted for 2015 and beyond.

Carlton CEO Steven Trigg says when the votes were tallied; the result was overwhelmingly in favour of reverting back to the heritage on a permanent basis.

“From the feedback we have received from members via email, through our social media channels and at our recent forums, it was evident there is a strong desire for our football club to respect the past, but be focused on the future,” Trigg said.

“Reverting to the heritage strip is a nod to our rich history – it’s a guernsey that has been worn with great pride and seen great success through many decades.

“But now is the chance for our current team to build toward making its own history, representing the Old Dark Navy Blue with the same passion, pride and unity that our players have done throughout our history.”

Carlton captain Marc Murphy, who revealed the design to Carlton supporters after the team’s training session, says the players are just as excited as the supporters

“I was really honoured to pull on the heritage strip this year, all the players loved running out in it and we’re rapt that our supporters loved it as much as we did,” Murphy said.

“We now have a new guernsey, new recruits and a new plan for our football club’s future – so we’re really looking forward to 2015 and being able to repay the dedication of our supporters.”
