Carlton is pleased to announce that young gun Patrick Cripps has signed a new two-year contract, to keep him in the navy blue until at least the end of 2017.

Recruited to Carlton with a first round draft pick (No. 13 overall) in the 2013 National Draft, Cripps made his debut in Round 4 this year against Melbourne.

The 19-year-old played a total of three AFL games in 2014, after his season was interrupted when he suffered a broken leg playing for the Northern Blues in the VFL. He returned to Carlton’s senior side for the final match of the season.

Carlton’s GM – Football Operations Andrew McKay says he’s rapt that Cripps wants to stay a Blue.

“Patrick has shown tremendous potential in his short time with us, both in his skills on the field and through his leadership qualities,” McKay said.

“In a year that we have seen so many young players ask to move clubs, it’s really pleasing that Patrick wants to commit to Carlton for the long term.

“We’re looking forward to watching him develop further as a player and have no doubt that he will make a great contribution to our football club in the years ahead.”

Meanwhile Cripps will be running out in a different number in 2015. To date he has played in the No. 16 guernsey, but from next year he will wear the No. 9 jumper, which is the number he wore playing junior football in Western Australia.
