Cheers and applause echoed through Visy Park last Wednesday, after it was confirmed that Carlton had secured Jason Tutt in the 2014 preseason draft.

It had been an anxious wait for the 23-year-old, who had delisted himself from the Western Bulldgos after a deal to trade him to the Blues couldn't be reached during the AFL's trade window.

Tutt says that he's thrilled to finally call Carlton home and is looking forward to the future at his new club.

"I'm enjoying it so far," said Tutt.

"Having Liam Jones come with me from the Bulldogs has been great. And I also know a few of the guys from playing against them at the Northern Blues and also playing games against Carlton.

"All the guys have been really nice and welcoming, which has been great."

The half-forward says that whilst the decision to delist himself from the Bulldogs was a difficult one, he knew that it would be to his beneft in the long term.

"It was always my aim to come to Carlton," Tutt said.

"Obviously with that I had to make the bold decision to delist myself which was nerve-wracking.

"But having the backing of Mick (Malthouse), Andrew McKay and Shane Rogers, and knowing that there was a spot here for me, it wasn't really that nerve-wracking in the end."

With a long pre-season ahead of him, the new blue set himself a few goals in the lead up to Round 1.

"The focus for me is the NAB Challenge first, just to play a couple of games would be great," said Tutt.

"Obviously to work hard here and earn the respect of the players, coaches and everyone around the footy club would be great."

And his first impressions of the senior coach?

"He's been really approachable and genuine which is all that you can ask for in a coach," Tutt said.

"Someone that genuinely cares about you and your football and is willing to give you opportunities – I think that's what his best qualities are and I'm looking forward to working with him next year."
