Carlton CEO Steven Trigg is confident the Blues are on the right track.
Speaking before the game on Saturday, he told ABC Grandstand Carlton’s commitment to grow and develop the list is of the “highest order”.
“It’s all about trying to establish a foundation for that success we want, to try and regain that dominance," Trigg said.
“If we want to be a dominant football club and a dominant team it’s going to take some time to rebuild the list."
While Carlton has acknowledged the Club is rebuilding and needs to add depth, its chief was adamant the team would remain competitive.
The Blues are still hunting their first win of the season and will face the Saints in Round 4 in an ANZAC Day clash in New Zealand.
Trigg echoed the words of Carlton's senior coach in saying he wants the team to play to win each week, which he added was also important to ensure the side's younger players have a positive introduction to football.
“What we need to do now is give our young blokes who get in there a good experience on the ground," Trigg said.
“We need to win and we need to develop – that's the tricky part."
As part of a commitment to bolster the Blues list management team, Stephen Silvagni recently returned to Carlton as the General Manager of List Management and Strategy.
Trigg said he is ecstatic to have Silvagni back and believes the fullback of the century has much to offer in terms of list development.
“I can’t tell you how delighted I am with him (Silvagni) heading up our recruiting and list management strategy," Trigg said.
“His network, his nous and his capacity to think through the next three or four years is terrific.
“We’re in good shape – we've just got to hold our nerve."
