Carlton’s dual Brownlow medallist Chris Judd says it’s a “great honour” to notch up his 300th official game on Friday night, qualifying him for AFL Life Membership.

Since his debut in 2002, Judd has played 277 premiership games, 19 pre-season games, one State of Origin game and two International Rules games.

The 31-year-old began his career at the West Coast Eagles after they selected him as a priority pick in the 2001 AFL National Draft. He played 134 games for the Eagles and won a premiership in 2006 before being traded to Carlton in 2007.

The former Blues captain says the 300-‘official’-game milestone came as a bit of a “surprise” and joked it certainly is a “lot of football”. But he says it’s perhaps too early for the achievement to really sink in.

“I think you work out what these things mean to you when your career is over and you can look back and reflect,” Judd said.

“In the game you’re focusing on what’s right in front of your nose, but I suspect it will mean a great deal and it will mean some personal recognition for how much work you put in playing footy.”

Last year it was touch and go as to whether Judd would retire at the season’s end. However after getting his body right and blitzing the second half of the 2014 season, Judd decided to continue playing.

When asked if reaching this milestone was the only reason he decided to play on in 2015, Judd joked: “Yep to get the 300”.

“I thought I’d need to play a couple more years to get there, so it’s good to get there early,” he said.

To see ‘Juddy’ play his 300th official game, head to Etihad Stadium on Friday night and watch Carlton battle Geelong.
