Carlton has picked up another key defender, recruiting Jesse Glass-McCasker with the first pick in the 2015 NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

The 198cm key position player kept Josh Schache, who was selected by Brisbane with pick 2 in the national draft on Tuesday, to just 1.1 in an U18 national championship game earlier this year.

Hailing from Swan Districts in WA, the 18-year old also performed well at the draft combine, ranking in the top 10 for absolute running vertical jump, absolute standing vertical jump and agility testing.

Carlton’s General Manager of List Management and Strategy Stephen Silvagni says Glass-McCasker will add to the Blues’ defensive stocks.

“Jesse is a big-bodied quick who can lock down on an opponent, while also having the ability to run off them,” Silvagni said.

“He performed exceptionally well against Josh Schache earlier in the year as a key position defender.”

Welcome, Jesse!
