Dennis Armfield and Kieran McGuinness will make their long-awaited returns against Geelong tomorrow night via the Northern Blues VFL side.

Both have been named on the field in the 27-man squad for the side to face the Cats under lights at Simonds Stadium.

Armfield and McGuinness will play for the first time since July last year, where Armfield broke his arm before suffering hamstring soreness, while McGuinness went down less than 24 hours later with a serious shoulder injury.

Tim Totevski may also make his return from his serious knee injury sustained last season, being included on an extended bench.

Michael Jamison and Mark Whiley also come into the squad, making way for Liam Sumner and Lachie Plowman who will make their Carlton debuts in the Round 4 clash with the Western Bulldogs.

Ben Casley and Tyler Roos are also included into the squad via the extended bench, while ruckman Cameron Wood will miss.

Zach Ballard, Jayden Foster, Billy Gowers, Sam Russell and Glenn Strachan round out the extended bench, with Hisham Kerbatieh retaining his spot as 23rd man.

17 Carlton-listed players have been named in the squad to come up against the Cats, with the likes of David Cuningham, Andrew Gallucci and Dillon Viojo-Rainbow retained in the side which went down to Footscray last week.

It will be Geelong’s first match of the 2016 VFL season, having had a bye in round one: George Horlin-Smith and Michael Luxford were two of their most impressive in the practice match win over the AFL Academy.

Excitable Geelong youngsters Nathan Vardy and Jake Kolodjashnij have also been named in the Cats’ starting line-up.

The squads will be cut down to 23 tomorrow night, before the Blues take to the field against the Cats from 7pm.

It will be Northern’s first game under lights in two years, having last played a night game in early 2014 against Werribee.
