The Northern Blues have named 22 Carlton-listed players in an extended squad of 31 for this Saturday’s VFL match against Port Melbourne.

After the Blues' opening win of the 2016 season last weekend, Andrejs Everitt will make his return from injury via the VFL side as one of 12 additions.

It will be Everitt’s first match for Northern, having been a permanent fixture in the AFL side since arriving at Ikon Park at the start of the 2014 season.

Ben Casley, Tim Jones, Tyler Roos and Carlton's Jack Silvagni could also make their debuts for the Blues' side, with both featuring on the extended bench.

Silvagni - who has been named after a hamstring injury caused a delayed start to his season - is one of 22 AFL-listed players in the extended squad, including all seven players listed on Carlton's extended bench for the clash with Fremantle on Sunday.

Dylan Buckley, Nick Graham, Michael Jamison, Matthew Kreuzer and Zach Tuohy all feature from that extended Carlton team, as do Liam Jones and Simon White (three of those seven will be named for the Northern Blues), who were two of Northern's most impressive last week against Geelong.

Dennis Armfield will continue his return from injury with his second consecutive match for Northern, while David Cuningham and Tom Wilson will provide the grunt work alongside the potential inclusion of Graham.

The Blues' engine room has taken a hit, with Zach Ballard (groin), Brent Bransgrove (soreness) and Mark Whiley (calf) all unavailable through injury from last week's team.

The news is more positive for Sam Russell, who has been named to play after suffering a concussion last Friday night.

Ben Casley and Tyler Roos could also make their long-awaited Northern debuts after impressive games in the Development side, alongside Tim Totevski.

Cameron Wood will also return having been named in a forward pocket, after being unavailable for the win against Geelong. The Blues won't be lacking for tall timber, with Daniel Gorringe and Matthew Korcheck also named on the bench.

Hisham Kerbatieh will again feature as 23rd man for the last week, with the match against the Borough being the third and final match in the role.

The squad will be cut down tomorrow in line with Carlton's team announcement for its match with the Dockers, while the final team of 23 will be announced before the bounce on Saturday.

With Carlton playing interstate this week, the game at Preston presents a great opportunity for Blues fans to see a number of their exciting young players in action.

Northern are coming up against a Borough side which also sits at 1-1 after two rounds, after they hung on to defeat Coburg by 10 points last week.

Sam Dwyer, Jordan Lisle and Nathan Batsanis are unavailable through injury, but stalwarts Toby Pinwill, Chris Cain and Hugh Sandilands have all been named.

The match commences at 2pm from Preston City Oval on Saturday afternoon, with Development to commence at 11am.
