Young Carlton forward Harry McKay got through his return match unscathed for the Northern Blues Development side this morning.

Playing his scheduled game time in the first half, McKay worked into the game to finish with five disposals and three marks.

It was his first hit-out of any nature since February, with a stress reaction in his back keeping him out for 12 weeks.

Speaking immediately after his day was done, McKay said it was a relief to get back out on the playing field.

“It’s really good to be back, it’s always good to have a run around after a long stint off the field,” McKay said.

“I’ve felt pretty good for a while now so I’ve been itching to come back.

“It was a good start from the boys so hopefully we can end the game with a win.”

McKay left the field with his side up by a solitary point at the main change, where he played solely up forward.

After a first quarter where he struggled for opportunity, McKay worked into the game in the second term and got through the game.

“I was blowing up a bit in the first quarter, you kind of forget how hard it is until you’re running out there again,” McKay said.

“I worked into it and got a couple of touches and get through injury free which is good: the back’s feeling 100 percent.”

The Northern Blues’ VFL game this afternoon begins from 2:10pm, with the match shown live on Channel 7.
