As the Blues prepare to take on the Crows this weekend, the Club wants you to share in its Multicultural Round festivities!

From match-day activities and membership offers, to Italian commentary, there are plenty of ways you can get involved.

Sri Lankan community visit:

The Club will welcome 60 members of the Sri Lankan community to Ikon Park this week, before they attend the game this Sunday. A Sri Lankan dance group will perform for the group, before receiving a presentation on the background of the Club, a tour of the facilities and a kick of the footy with some of the players.

Community Champions:

The Club’s ‘Community Champions’ for Round 16 are Bec Harris and Ellie Bradbeer. They are both passionate teachers from Carlton Primary School who do terrific work with migrant refugee communities, in particular those from the Horn of Africa.

Through a new club initiative, Carlton will acknowledge one of its supporters at every home game this season, recognising their work in gender equality, cultural inclusion or developing grassroots football in the community. All of these fields play a vital role in educating, growing and providing better experiences in our local community.

Guard of Honour:

Students from Carlton Primary School will form our guard of honour this week, with most of the students hailing from the Horn of Africa.

In addition, through our multicultural ambassadors, Carlton has a significant amount of key people from the multicultural communities attending the game, including the Sri Lankan community band – make sure you listen out for them!

Game day:

If you’re going to the game on Sunday, you might also notice a few multicultural touches on the umpires, the ground and the footy! Umpires will have the word ‘UMPIRE’ translated into one of six languages and printed on their uniform, while the goal umpires will wave orange flags to signify harmony. Meanwhile Sherrin match balls with have the word ‘WELCOME’ printed in six different languages on them, and the 50m arcs will be bi-lingual, correlating to the language theme for the game.
