Carlton Football Club is pleased to confirm Billie Smedts will join the Blues after agreeing to a trade with Geelong.

Smedts arrives at Ikon Park along with Geelong’s future first-round selection in 2017 as well as Pick 63 in the 2016 National Draft, in exchange for defender Zach Tuohy and Carlton’s future second-round selection in 2017.

General Manager of List Management and Strategy Stephen Silvagni said the trade was in line with the Club’s overall list strategy.

“We’re pleased to welcome Billie to the Carlton Football Club. He is a natural talent and we feel he will be a strong and versatile addition to our list,” Silvagni said.

“Additionally, we have secured a future first-round selection in 2017 as well as Pick 63.

“We would like to thank Geelong for their professionalism in getting this deal done. We also acknowledge Zach for his contribution to the Club over the past six years and we wish him the best in the future.”

The 24-year-old utility said he was looking forward to joining the ranks at Carlton after six years at the Cats.

“I sincerely thank Geelong for my time there, but now, I’m excited about a fresh start at the Blues,” Smedts said.

“The Club seems to be really building on what they started last year under Brendon Bolton and I’m really looking forward to making the most of this opportunity.”

Having played 38 senior games, Smedts was drafted to Geelong with Pick 15 in the 2010 national draft.
