With a long and proud history behind every stitch of Carlton’s iconic guernsey, a new chapter in the story of the Old Dark Navy Blue jumper has now begun, as the Club’s inaugural women’s guernsey is unveiled.

The jumper and apparel designs of all eight foundation clubs were revealed by the AFL on Thursday morning, with Cotton On Group and New Era announced as official apparel partner and headwear partner of AFL Women’s, respectively.

Carlton players Lauren Arnell, Darcy Vescio and Sarah Hosking were on hand to model the new gear, with Carlton opting to stick with its traditional look – but with a twist.

The white heritage CFC monogram is displayed front and centre on the traditional navy blue jumper, with hints of light blue highlighting the finer details along the trim of the shorts and guernsey.

“It feels unbelievable, obviously it’s really special to pull on the monogram and to be finally in the full kit is just unreal,” Vescio said.

Vescio, who also works as a graphic designer at the Club, says the design team as a collective achieved its goal of blending the old with the new.

“We wanted to keep the elements of the men’s jumper pretty similar in the women’s jumper, so obviously having the big monogram and keeping it navy blue, and I think we achieved that,” she said.

“We’ve just got a few light blue features in the jumper which sort of lightens it up a bit and creates a point of difference.”

Another unique feature of the design is the personalised message on the women’s compression shorts. ‘You are a game changer’ has been printed on the tights as a constant reminder to our girls that they are creating history.

Arnell, along with selected women’s players, helped design the overall cut and feel of the guernsey, and she couldn’t be happier with the final product.

“It’s pretty awesome, it’s not only comfortable but I think everyone looks pretty good in navy blue,” Arnell laughed.

“Now we just can’t wait to start training officially on November 23 and wear the kits for real.”

The women’s apparel range will be available to purchase from The Carlton Shop, so stay tuned to Carlton Media for the official release dates. Women’s New Era hats are on sale now.
