Carlton Football Club has today welcomed the AFL’s decision to move the inaugural NAB AFL Women's season opener between Carlton and Collingwood to Ikon Park.

CEO Steven Trigg said the venue’s capacity influenced the decision to move the location of the game.

“We welcome the decision to shift the opening match of the inaugural AFLW season to Ikon Park on the basis of a higher than first anticipated attendance. Naturally, we feel very privileged to be opening the inaugural season with Collingwood and we understand the AFL’s decision to change the location of the game.

“We will work closely with the AFL to ensure the game is a great success and a high quality event for all supporters.

“Regardless of the venue, this is an historic occasion for both clubs, as well as the competition, and we feel a great sense of pride to be opening the inaugural AFLW season with Collingwood."

Entry to AFLW matches is free of charge with the exception of the five double-headers played as curtain raisers. A ticket to the JLT Community Series match will be required for entry to those games. Members of the competing teams will have free access to both matches.

Carlton faces Collingwood at Ikon Park on Friday 3 February with the match time now changed to 7:45pm AEDT. Gates will be open from 5.30pm AEDT, with entry to Ikon Park via Gates 5 and 6.
