For the purposes of this story she prefers to go by the pseudonym ‘Silvergirl’ . . . but there’s no such ambiguity when it comes to her football club of choice.

“I was born into a Carlton-crazy family,” said the Melbourne-based singer songwriter.

“Both sets of grandparents lived in Carlton and all were passionate which they passed on - except for Grandpa on Mum’s side who was a member of the Anti-Football League (boooo).

As a long-term member, Silvergirl completes the regular pilgrimages to most venues at which her beloved Blues strut their stuff - invariably in the company of her brother and his children, or maybe her daughter.

True, the highs have been all too few in recent years – and yet Silvergirl is in no doubt that the darkness is just before the dawn for the football club she truly loves.

“It won’t be too long before we are right back up there,” she insists. “I love the new kids coming through, it’s great to watch them developing, and we’re very fortunate to have such a dynamic young coach.”

Silvergirl’s fervor for all things Carlton has compelled the Melbourne singer/songwriter to pen a song “Blueboys” for the club as a free download for anyone who shares the passion.

“You’ll be my Blueboys ’til the last game is played

You’ll be my Blueboys ’til my dying day”

In the interests of balance, she has also released the tune “Gave It All”, in tribute to the Club’s fledgling women’s team, which this week meets Collingwood in the inaugural AFLW season opener.

“We’re gonna remember everything,

The thud of the ball,

How we stood tall . . . ”

“I’m only too happy for the club to use these songs as they see fit - ecstatic if you use them at all,” Silvergirl said.

“I did this because I love the Club, and our players. I hope it might bring a smile to the faces of the supporters, staff and players who know we are with them no matter what.”
