Carlton Football Club is delighted to welcome Maddison Gay and Kerryn Harrington as the two newest members to its AFLW team.

The pair join the Blues as rookie-listed players having previously excelled in their respective sports – Gay as a netballer and Harrington a basketballer.

After securing the talents of the athletes on the second day of the 2017 AFLW Trade Period, senior women’s coach Damien Keeping said he was thrilled to have the duo bound to the Blues.

“We believe Maddison and Kerryn will help drive elite standards amongst our playing group,” Keeping said.

“Maddison is an outside-mid with great balance, while Kerryn is an inside-mid who covers the ground exceptionally well.

“They’re both still learning the game but we’re confident they’ll be really exciting prospects for the Club.”

As an elite netballer, Gay was selected in Melbourne University Lightning’s Division One side in 2017, after three years with Melbourne and one year with Ballarat Pride.

The 20-year-old is currently studying to be a primary school teacher and joins the Blues from the St Kilda Sharks after pulling on footy boots for the first time this year.

Meanwhile Harrington has spent the majority of her sporting career as a point guard for Bendigo Spirit in the Women’s National Basketball League. She also represented Australia at the 2009 and 2011 under-19 junior World Championships.

The 25-year-old physio student joins Carlton after being introduced to football in 2017 as a midfielder for Bendigo Thunder.
