Carlton has secured 23 AFLW players ahead of the 2018 NAB AFL Women’s Draft.

A lively AFL Women’s trade and signing period saw 19 inaugural Blues re-commit to Carlton for 2018, following two big moves made by the Club which secured gun defender Nicola Stevens from Collingwood and star forward Tayla Harris from Brisbane. 

Carlton also welcomed two rookies to Ikon Park, with Kerryn Harrington joining Carlton as an impressive basketballer and Maddison Gay becoming a Blue following a successful netball career.

To mark the first ever AFLW exchange, Carlton signed Stevens along with the Magpies’ pick No.28 in the 2018 NAB AFL Women’s Draft and gave Collingwood its first, second and third-round selections. 

At the pointier end of the two weeks, the Blues reached an agreement with Brisbane to secure Harris in a deal which saw inaugural Blues Isabella Ayre and Nat Exon traded to the Lions and Bianca Jakobsson traded to Melbourne. 

Along with Harris, the Blues received the Western Bulldogs’ pick No.12 for the upcoming AFLW National Draft.

Inaugural Carlton players Rebecca Privitelli, Kate Darby, Tahni Nestor, Jessica Kennedy, Alison Brown and Hayley Trevean were not re-signed by the Club. While Privitelli was picked-up by Greater Western Sydney during the four-day free agency period which concluded today, the remaining unsigned players have been delisted. 

Carlton will head into this year’s draft with selections 12 (No.7 overall in Victoria), 28, 29, 37 and 41 to finalise a primary list of 27 players. 

Having filled two of its three possible rookie positions, Carlton has a total of seven spots left for 2018 – six on its primary list.
