Impressive first-year defender Tom Williamson will be sidelined for the next two weeks after suffering a heavy knock in his back in the Blues’ win over the Gold Coast.

Head of Football Andrew McKay said Williamson had pulled up sore after suffering the knock during the Blues’ 10-point victory over the Suns on Saturday night.

“Tom copped a knock to the back on the weekend and he’s pulled up really quite sore. He has a lot of bruising to that back area and we imagine he will sidelined for a week or two, but more likely, it will be two weeks," McKay said.

The young defender from North Ballarat has played 10 games this season after making his debut in Round 3 earlier this year against Essendon.

McKay also provided updates on Liam Sumner and Daniel Gorringe, who have both suffered minor adductor injuries.

“Liam injured his adductor during training last week and obviously didn’t get up to play against Gold Coast last weekend. He’s progressing well and will be a test for the end of this week,” he said.

“Daniel injured his right adductor playing in the Northern Blues against Werribee on the weekend.

“He’ll probably miss between one to two weeks worth of football but we’re unsure of how he’ll recover within the next week or so. We’ll stay tuned and test him later next week to see.”

Meanwhile, mature defender Alex Silvagni will be looking to make a return to senior football within the next fortnight as he overcomes a knee injury.

“Alex is still a couple of weeks away. He is tracking well but he will test in about two weeks’ time to determine his availability for senior selection again.”
