THREE Blues players have been named in Kane Cornes’ Round 1 Team of the Week for afl.com.au.

Kade Simpson was named at half-back, while Patrick Cripps featured as a follower and Charlie Curnow as a half-forward.

In his 287th game, veteran defender Simpson starred with 35 disposals at 85.7 per cent efficiency, racking up a game-high 908m gained.

Cripps collected a staggering 25 contested possessions, along with nine clearances and seven tackles, while Curnow had Blues fans in raptures with a career-high five goals.

Cornes lauded the Blues trio for their efforts in a losing side.

“I loved how Charlie Curnow backed up the pre-season hype with a career-best five goals – it showed his maturity,” Cornes said.

“Courageous Blue Kade Simpson was superb against the Tigers.

“I've wanted to see Patrick Cripps kick more and he's obviously worked on that,” Cornes said.
