1968 PREMIERSHIP CELEBRATION

Carlton will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its 1968 premiership against Essendon at the MCG on Saturday afternoon. The three-point victory marked the Club’s ninth premiership and included iconic names such as John Nicholls, Alex Jesaulenko and Serge Silvagni. Members of the team will be hosted by the Club on match-day.

RING OF HONOUR: GARRY CRANE

Carlton’s three-time premiership player Garry Crane will ring the historic Blue Bell at the top of Carlton’s race 15 minutes prior to the first bounce and be inducted into Carlton’s Ring of Honour. Crane played 148 games between 1964 and 1976 and was crowned the Club’s best and fairest in 1969. In 2000, he entered Carlton’s Hall of Fame and was named in the Blues’ Team of the Century.

MADDEN CUP

The Blues and Bombers will battle for the Madden Cup this weekend. The award is named in honour of brothers Simon and Justin, who currently hold the record for the most games played between a pair of brothers in the AFL (a combined 710 games for Essendon and Carlton).

In 1998, the Carlton Football Club and Essendon Football Club established the Madden Cup as an annual prize for matches between the two clubs following Justin’s retirement from the Blues in 1997. Justin played 45 games for Essendon and 287 games for Carlton, winning two premierships and two best-and-fairest awards. Simon played 378 games for Essendon, winning two premierships, four best-and-fairests and a Norm Smith Medal.

MARC MURPHY BOBBLEHEAD

Members and supporters will have the chance to collect the next figure in Carlton’s Hyundai bobblehead collection. As the Club’s reigning best-and-fairest winner, skipper Marc Murphy has been immortalised in bobblehead form, joining Stephen Kernahan, Sam Docherty, Andrew Walker and Brianna Davey.
