CARLTON is delighted to announce the acquisition of Lucy McEvoy after selecting the young star with pick No.2 in the NAB AFL Women’s Draft.

A natural leader and one of the clear standouts of the draft pool, McEvoy officially became a Blue on Tuesday after a stellar 2019 campaign.

The Geelong Falcons’ captain for the past three seasons, McEvoy was an All Australian in 2019 after starring in the NAB League, the NAB AFLW Under 18 Championships (Vic Country) and VFLW competition (Geelong).

Just as likely to star across half-back or up forward as she is in the middle of the ground, McEvoy is strong in the contest and is - in every sense of the term - a pure footballer.

McEvoy was premiership captain for the Falcons as a 16-year-old in 2017, was Vic Country’s most valuable player in the championships and has been an All Australian for the last three years.

Her versatility and star power is clear when you consider she has been named in three different positions of those All-Australian teams: back pocket (2017), full forward (2018) and centre (2019).

The cousin of Hawthorn premiership ruckman Ben, McEvoy is now Bound By Blue and bound to make a big impact on the AFLW competition.

GM of Women’s Football Ash Brown said the Club was thrilled that McEvoy would now call Ikon Park home.

“We’re delighted to be able to welcome someone of Lucy’s ability and character to our football club,” Brown said.

“She’s shown that she can have a big impact whether it’s down back, up forward or in the middle of the ground, and her leadership is evident as captain of the Falcons for three straight years.

“Lucy has been one of the very best junior footballers in the country for a long time: we can’t wait for her to show our supporters why we’re so excited to have her representing our football club.”
