It’s been a big week at Carlton with Chris Judd signalling his intention to play on next year on the back of the Blues’ win over the Gold Coast.

Here’s a snapshot of the news headlines:

CARLTON superstar Chris Judd will play on next year after aborting retirement plans

The Herald Sun can reveal Judd had decided to walk away from the game, but a return to form and fitness and the Blues’ upswing in form has encouraged him to change his mind.

Judd, who turns 31 next month, will declare his intentions to continue into a 14th season on Fox Footy’s On The Couch tonight.

“He’s certainly indicated to us that if his body is feeling the way it is now he wants to go on,” Carlton football manager Andrew McKay said.

Matthew Kreuzer set to make long-awaited comeback via VFL before returning for Carlton
Herald Sun, Glenn McFarlane

LUCKLESS Carlton ruckman Matthew Kreuzer will make his long-awaited comeback through the VFL with the Northern Blues on Saturday if he gets through training this week.

Kreuzer, 25, has not played since foot surgery in April, after managing only one senior game this year.

But the Blues hope he can get through two VFL matches and play against Essendon in the final game of the AFL home-and-away season.

Blues are starting to believe
The Age, Rohan Connolly

Carlton coach Mick Malthouse says he can see his players beginning to come out of their shells as the Blues continue their late-season improvement.

Carlton’s 39-point win over Gold Coast was the Blues’ third from their last five games, with one of the two losses by just five points against top-four team Fremantle last week. The Blues had won just four of their first 14 games.

Malthouse said he had noticed stronger leadership and more self-belief the longer 2014 has gone, and that the Blues would continue to accumulate good young players until they had enough to challenge for a top-four spot.

Blues give Chris Judd something to think about
The Age, Jon Pierik

While it has not been the best of weeks for the Blues, Chris Judd has revealed greater on-field commitment from his teammates has given him a reason to consider playing on next season.

Those close to Judd and others in the football industry do not expect him to continue beyond this season – Wayne Carey has already declared Judd will retire – but the man himself says he has yet to come to a decision.

Since returning from a hamstring injury in round 13, Judd has had a strong season, averaging 21 disposals, including 11 contested, five clearances, four tackles, four inside 50s and 1.4 score assists a game.

The dual Brownlow medallist said on Monday he was close to re-signing at Visy Park.

"Yep, yeah, pretty close," Judd told Footy Classified.

"(I) spoke to Mick and 'Macca' today and hopefully we announce some stuff soon."

Waite should stay at Blues, insists Judd
AFL Website, Peter Ryan

FREE Agent Jarrad Waite should remain at Carlton, according to Blues champion Chris Judd.

Waite, the 31-year-old out-of-contract forward, has been in top form for three consecutive weeks, taking 26 marks and kicking 12 goals. He has played 181 games since making his debut in 2003.

Judd told Fox Footy he doesn't know whether Waite will continue his career at the club where his late father Vin played in two premierships.
