Carlton has today traded ruckman Shaun Hampson to Richmond in exchange for their second round draft pick.

The 25-year-old has played 63 AFL games, but injury has restricted him to just six appearances in Carlton’s senior side in 2013.

Hampson was picked up by Carlton with selection No.17 in the 2006 National Draft, and made his debut the following year, in Round 21 against North Melbourne.

Carlton’s GM – Football Operations Andrew McKay says ‘Hammer’ will be missed, but the move is right for both parties.

“Shaun has been a much-liked and valued member of our team, who has a terrific work ethic,” McKay said.

“Although he hasn’t played in many senior games this season, he has continued to make a significant contribution to the Club behind the scenes.

“However, in the interests of both parties, there is a greater opportunity for Shaun at Richmond and it allows us another pick in the draft.

“We thank Shaun for his contribution to Carlton and wish him all the very best for the future.”

The draft pick number Carlton has received in exchange for Hampson is currently pick No.28. That could change however, as all draft selections remain provisional, pending the allocation of compensation picks.
