Initially thinking his AFL journey could’ve been over, Wade Derksen was handed a reprieve at Carlton at the final hour as a supplemental selection period signing in 2026.
A versatile key position prospect, Derksen was recruited by GWS in 2021 and impressing in the VFL, ending 2023 as the Giants’ leading goalkicker before swinging to defence in 2024 and featuring in the VFL Team of the Year squad.
His commitment to his football was evidenced by making a four-day drive from Darwin when the Carlton call came, arriving at IKON Park with no guarantees before ultimately earning his spot on the list.
