When is the draft?

Tonight. And also, tomorrow night. Then Friday afternoon to top it off.

The 2021 NAB AFL Draft kicks off tonight, with the first round of selections to be made. The remaining rounds of the 2021 NAB AFL Draft will take place on the following night, before the rookie draft kicks off on Friday from 3pm.

Where is the draft?

In person? The national draft will take place from Marvel Stadium across both Wednesday and Thursday nights, while the rookie draft this Friday will be a digital affair.

On TV, the 2021 NAB AFL Draft can be viewed on FOX Footy or Kayo, with coverage beginning on Wednesday from 7pm and Thursday from 6:30pm.

When will Carlton be making their selections?

The Blues will be taking one live pick in the 2021 NAB AFL Draft, as well as some senior upgrades to round out their three required selections in the national draft.

As things stand, the Blues have pick No.25, which is likely to be shifted back slightly due to father-son bidding on players like Nick Daicos (Collingwood) and Sam Darcy (Western Bulldogs).

With pick No.25 falling in the second round, Carlton does not currently have a selection in the Wednesday night allotment of picks.

Why don’t the Blues have a pick inside the first round?

Remember trade period? It feels like so long ago. The Blues traded their first selection (and a future third-round pick) for Adam Cerra, who has settled into IKON Park this week.

Of course, live trading is an option, which the Blues have shown they’re no strangers to in the past. However, given what Head of List Management Nick Austin outlined last month, there’d have to be a significant plot twist for some Blues involvement on Wednesday night.

Who will the Blues be selecting?

Good question. We’ll let you know in a few days.

Austin outlined that the Blues will be looking for midfield depth and “around-the-square types”, aiming to bolster the team’s running capacity and ball use.

What should I be wary of?

The cliches. All of them.

For every draft bolter, draft slider or “the kid who could be anything”, just remember: we rated the player higher than where he was taken, and we’ve won the draft.
