LEWIS Young will make his Carlton debut at the MCG this Sunday.

It was on a Sunday afternoon at the home of football back in 2017 where Young played his first AFL game against the Blues: five years on, he gets the chance to do so at the same venue for his new club.

Young is the solitary confirmed inclusion in the extended squad for the Blues, having been named in the starting 18. His inclusion comes on the back of being one of the best players on the ground in the Carlton Reserves' Round 1 VFL win last week.

Adam Cerra and Jack Martin could return from AFL Health and Safety Protocols after being included on the extended bench, while the Club could also record a second debutant should Jordan Boyd make the final team.

Luke Parks is the other inclusion to the extended squad, which will be reduced to the team of 22 at 5pm on Friday.

It was announced earlier in the week that Oscar McDonald was ruled out due to a back injury, while defender Mitch McGovern is expected to be sidelined for the next 3-4 weeks after suffering a hamstring strain at training.

McGovern reported hamstring awareness during the session and went for scans, the result of which confirmed a grade one hamstring strain. At this stage, it is expected to see him return to the side in the vicinity of Round 6-7.

The Club will provide further updates on his progress in the coming weeks.

“Mitch has had a really strong start to the season, off the back of a mountain of work he put in over the summer,” Carlton Head of Football Brad Lloyd said.

“This injury obviously isn’t ideal for Mitch but given the strong base he’s built for himself over the last few months, it gives him the best possible platform to launch into his rehab and return to the side in about a month.

“We’re fortunate to have our VFL side putting in some really strong performances in recent weeks so there will be an opportunity for players to step in and take their chance at AFL level, as we’ve already seen happen in the first few weeks of the season.”
