CARLTON midfielder Mimi Hill has been crowned the NAB AFL Women’s Rising Star for 2022 at tonight’s W Awards.

She received 43 votes ahead of Gold Coast’s Charlie Rowbottom on 42 and North Melbourne’s Mia King on 33.

Hill was nominated after a blistering comeback performance in Round 5 where, following 12 months out of the game after an ACL injury, she immediately stepped in to collect a career-high 26 possessions against the Crows along with five marks and four tackles.

The 19-year-old’s impact was felt from the moment she returned to the field, and she was named one of the Game Changers’ best players in all six games she featured in this season.

Averaging over 21 disposals a game, Hill lit up the midfield and was one of the Club’s most efficient ball users over her six games.

She was also listed in the 2022 All-Australian squad, being the only Rising Star nominee to be included in the 40-player line-up.

Hill becomes the third Carlton player in four years to win the NAB Rising Star award with teammate Madison Prespakis and AFL co-vice-captain Sam Walsh both taking home the honour in 2019.

Carlton General Manager of Women’s Football Brett Munro said this is a great reward for effort that Hill has earnt through a 12-month journey where she had defined professionalism, hard work and determination.

“Outstanding performances deserve to be recognised and that is what Mimi achieved in her six games this season,” Munro said.

“Mimi slotted right back into the side and made an instant impact, and her ability to find and use the ball with great effect was on show upon her return.

“When Mimi’s season ended prematurely in 2021, we knew it was going to be a challenging time and to her credit, she took it in her stride and did everything that was asked of her to enable her to successfully return this season.

“That says a lot about her talent but so much more about the outstanding person she is. A great character around the Club who genuinely cares about her teammates and making this football club the best environment it can possibly be to help us win.

“Mimi’s application on and off the field has been elite and to see her be recognised for a fantastic season is credit to her individual work, and it something our entire program takes pride in.”
