“AS SOON as my brother got suspended, the knee came good.”

Sam Walsh was one of a number of people that floated the concept that he has still never seen Harry and Ben McKay in the same room.

And while the former is still hopeful of one day playing against his twin brother, he - typically tongue-in-cheek - suggested not to bank on it.

After being a late out the last two times the teams have played against each other, this time Harry was the one who featured in the Carlton versus North Melbourne clash, with Ben receiving a one-game suspension last week.

There was an injury cloud hovering over McKay coming out of the Round 6 clash with Fremantle, but he suggested a miraculous recovery the moment it became clear that his brother wouldn’t be on the other side.

“Every year, it’s something new,” Harry said on FOX Footy post-match.

“I’m going to say maybe next year, but don’t hold your breath.

“I think he was over in the race before, so I hope someone got a photo of it.”

In terms of his actual performance, McKay was brilliant for the Blues, continuing his happy record at Marvel Stadium.

The reigning Coleman Medallist has done his best work under the roof, particularly since the beginning of last year.

His goals column at Marvel Stadium since Round 3, 2021 reads as follows: seven, six, four, two, five, one (where he sustained a shoulder injury), four, four. That’s a total of 33 goals from eight games.

Playing a slightly different role this year under a new coaching panel and with good mate Charlie Curnow now alongside him, McKay said he was loving his football in Navy Blue.

“‘Vossy’ has come in and reset the football club,” he said.

“His style is a little bit different, but he empowers everybody to play to their strengths, how you can make your teammate better and take your value in the game by how you can help someone else.

“I think that whole attitude has flowed through the whole place and it’s a really good place at the moment.”
