After gruelling hikes and plenty of practise with the Sherrin in the snow, there’s a change of pace for Carlton players in Arizona today.

The team has travelled to Phoenix and is utilising the facilities of the Grand Canyon University.

Carlton’s Director of Coaching and Development Rob Wiley says for today, the focus of the pre-season camp will shift from fitness to tactics.

“We looked at game plan last night and now what we want to do today is have a good session,” Wiley said. “We’re starting to educate our players on the way we want to play for 2014.”

Wiley says he’s been pleased with the attitude of players, who he says have remained “very bubbly and enthusiastic” through some tough challenges over the past week – including hikes to the Grand Canyon and Humphreys Peak.

“The first part was challenging the players mentally, doing the Grand Canyon and the Nordic hike, plus the attempt to get up to the top of the mountain,” Wiley said.

“That was a fantastic experience and the guys thought it was some of the toughest days they’ve been involved in.”

Players will finish the day by witnessing the tactics of another code and watching the Rams take on the Cardinals in the NFL.
