“YOU CAN’T ask for better support than what we’ve got at the moment.”

Carlton fans once again turned up in droves to support their team on Saturday afternoon, and Sam Walsh was loving every minute of it.

The clear best on ground in the Round 15 triumph, Walsh collected 40 disposals as the Blues produced their most complete performance of the season to run away with a 31-point win over highly acclaimed opposition.

Speaking following the victory over Fremantle, Walsh said that it was the exact kind of showing and result the Blues were after — and the noise inside Marvel Stadium from the 35,000-strong crowd was indicative of the emotion among the playing group and supporter base alike.

“It’s crazy: our fans have been amazing all year. When you get to Marvel as well, it echoes a fair bit,” Walsh said on FOX Footy.

“If someone said coming into the game that this would be the result, I’d be pumped.

“You have to earn it. Being in a top eight position, every week you’re going to have someone coming at you: it’s great for us.”

Walsh acknowledged that the midfield group - an integral part of Carlton’s success this season - was beaten against Richmond, and an internal response was necessary.

It was a resounding one on Saturday, going toe to toe and winning the contested battle against a Fremantle side which did exactly that to the Blues back in Round 6.

A 40-disposal individual showing aside, Walsh was more pleased about the response of the collective.

“We’ve stressed all year that it’s an 18-man defence and I think a lot of those inside 50s came from us around the ball last week,” he said.

“We got challenged, but the best bit about footy is you get to respond the next week.

“It felt like we did that, but now we’ve got to back it up against the Saints on Friday.”
