IMOGEN Milford and Lily Goss will make their AFLW debuts on Sunday.

Announced to the playing group by AFLW Senior Coach Daniel Harford on Thursday evening, the pair will become the Game Changers’ fifth and sixth Carlton debutants of the season when they run out against Port Adelaide on Sunday.

Playing a full season of VFLW with the Casey Demons in 2021, 21-year-old Milford honed her forward craft before nominating for the draft, where she was picked up by the Blues at pick No.26.

The 179-centimetre key forward ended that year as the runner-up on the goalkicking table, producing 19 goals from 15 games.

The opportunity to make her AFLW debut has been well-earned, providing just reward for Milford’s hard work and patience.

“She’s come a long way from where she was at Casey, to a position where we can put her name on the board and be really confident and comfortable that she’ll go out there and do the job we need her to do,” Harford said.

A homegrown talent, Lily Goss was picked up with pick No.48 (Victorian pick No.26) in the 2022 NAB AFL Women’s Draft after a strong showing with the Blues’ VFLW side.

Goss was one of the Blues' best in the 2022 VFLW season, finishing runner-up in the best-and-fairest count in a season where she was as reliable and consistent as anyone – she averaged over 15 disposals per game, while also recording eight tackles or more in seven games.

A pre-season shoulder injury meant Goss had to put in the hard yards to reach her debut, only further showcasing the grit and determination which had allowed her to reach this point.

“Your performance in the VFLW program was a real eye-opener for us, the reason why we drafted you and the reason why we feel that you are a player we need at our football club," he said.

“What [the debuts] show everyone, is that you’re never that far away. Even if it’s not going your way, you’re never that far away.

"If you keep working, if you keep pushing, asking your coaches what you need to do, getting out there and doing those things time and time again, there will be reward.”
