A NUMBER of Blues are in the mix to take home the Club’s highest individual honour for season seven after outstanding individual campaigns.

We take a look at some of the contenders ahead of Friday night’s best-and-fairest awards night.

Abbie McKay

One of the most improved players league-wide, Abbie McKay saw an opportunity in her fifth season of AFLW and grabbed it with both hands.

Improving on all key statistics from season six to seven, McKay averaged 20.7 disposals (up on last season’s 13.8), 11.6 contested possessions (6.2), 4.8 clearances (2.2) and 7.4 tackles (3.3).

She was one of two Navy Blue inclusions in the final AFLPA 22under22 team and was also one of Carlton’s most consistent performers, tallying AFLCA votes in six games as the highest-polling Blue with 27 votes.

Her best game came in Round 4 against Fremantle, recording 29 disposals, 10 clearances, eight tackles and 300 metres gained in the drawn result.

Breann Moody

Breann Moody has continued to elevate her game, continuing the tap work dominance that she has become synonymous with whilst developing her craft around the ground and in front of goals.

Her dominant season seven campaign culminated in All-Australian selection – the second time the 25-year-old has achieved the feat in her career.

At the completion of the home-and-away season, she sat third overall in the league for hitouts per game (averaging 22.8), while claiming the highest average contested possessions (3.5), contested marks (1.3) and metres gained (217.5) across the competition’s rucks.

She finished first on the Blues’ goalkicking table (with six goals), and equal-highest for score involvements (averaging 2.3) alongside Mimi Hill.

Moody received AFLCA votes on three occasions throughout season seven – twice of those marked with the perfect 10 votes from the coaches, which came in the Blues’ two wins of the season.

Keeley Skepper

Since her debut in Round 2, Keeley Skepper hasn’t missed a beat at AFLW level.

She pieced together a campaign beyond her years in her debut season, averaging 10.9 disposals, 2.2 marks, 2.3 score involvements and 234.9 metres gained.

Skepper’s season was typified by her Round 4 performance, picking up 14 disposals, three tackles and contributing a team-high 384 metres gained in just her third game for the Blues – picking up a Rising Star nomination in the process.

03:15

Kerryn Peterson

Kerryn Peterson squared up to a new challenge in season seven, straying from her customary position marshalling the backline and playing further up the ground.

She thrived in the midfield, averaging 14.4 disposals and 216.3 metres gained (the third-highest Blue in both categories), as well as 3.2 marks, ranked No.1 at Carlton.

At the helm for a second season in a single year, Peterson’s leadership and maturity were again on show for the Blues.

04:50

Lucy McEvoy

At the defensive end of the ground, Lucy McEvoy proved a fierce competitor and efficient distributor from the backline, demonstrating her growth as a leader amongst the Game Changers.

McEvoy kicked off the season with her best performance, recording 24 disposals, six tackles, five marks and 10 intercept possessions in a near best-on-ground performance against Collingwood in the season opener.

She finished the season with an average of 13.5 disposals per game, 4.2 intercept possessions and 2.5 rebound 50s with her season culminating in selection in the final 22under22 team for season seven.

01:18

Mimi Hill

From Rising Star to emerging leader, it’s easy to forget that Mimi Hill has only just completed her first full season of AFLW.

The Blues’ highest ball winner across the season, Hill averaged 23.2 disposals per game (10.8 contested), four clearances and 2.3 score involvements.

Polling AFLCA votes across six games, she finished just two votes shy of McKay in the overall count.

03:29

Mua Laloifi

Mua Laloifi has been a rock in defence, leading the Blues for intercept possessions (averaging 7.4 per game), clearing her own career-best in Round 5 - and setting a Carlton AFLW record in the process - with 14.

The Round 5 clash with Melbourne was arguably her best, on her way to a career-high 20 disposals (including 10 contested), along with 361 metres gained.

Throughout season seven, Laloifi averaged 11.8 disposals, ranking fifth in the competition for intercept possessions while also being the No.1 ranked Blue for rebound 50s.
