COMMONLY known among Bluebaggers as the ‘Slippery Fish’, Zac Fisher definitely found his feet under the coaching of Michael Voss in 2022.

Playing in his sixth season at Carlton, Fisher played every game for the campaign, putting together his best and most consistent season to date.

Fisher’s manic pressure and nuance around goal held him in good stead – holding his spot in the forward line while spending more minutes in the midfield and proving himself game after game.

“I was pretty happy with [my year],” Fisher said.

“Under ‘Vossy’ and having a bit of continuity with the forward line definitely made it easier for me to perform on game day.”

Voss definitely isn’t short on AFL experience - having three premierships and a Brownlow Medal under his belt - with the Blues buying into the ‘practice what you preach’ mentality from the Hall of Famer.

Known for his people skills and his ability to command a room, Fisher isn’t the only player that has flourished under not only Voss, but the coaching group he has surrounded himself with.

“He walks into a room and he demands respect,” he said.

“He got it done as a player, but he’s also a great people person and the boys really follow him.”

While the end of the season was not what the Blues would have hoped, Fisher admitted that being able to keep their cool in fiery situations was ultimately their downfall.

Fisher noted that the experience of having close games slip through their fingers provided plenty of lessons which is fuelling the Blues in pre-season.

“It stung, but learning from those moments, you really get to learn from and move forward,” he said.

“It’s situational-based and valuing the small things.

“If we train on it here, things become habits and we can come out and execute and play freely.”
