CARLTON AFLW captain Kerryn Peterson has pledged her commitment to remain in the Navy Blue for season eight.

It follows a great start to the AFLW Sign and Trade period for the Blues, who secured star midfielder Mimi Hill to add an additional year on her existing deal.

Peterson showed exceptional leadership during a challenging 2022 for the side, consistently exhibiting a passion for the football club and care for her teammates.

With now 52 games under her belt, the 31-year-old's career progression has been an inspiration over her first six seasons.

Having entered football following a basketball career at the elite level, Peterson has progressed into one of the most consistent performers in the competition, not missing a game since making her debut in Round 1, 2018.

Peterson has now embraced the next opportunity, to play a pivotal role in building a new era for side.

“As challenging as this recent period has been, to see the Club back the players to drive standards, and be relentless in that, gives you all the belief you need as a player that this program is well and truly moving forward,” Peterson said.

“As players, we’ve taken ownership of where we’ve been and there will be a collective responsibility to make sure we show the initiative to drive the standards to an elite level, that will allow us to build a program for the long-term that is capable of achieving success.

“Thank you also to all our members and supporters who have stuck with us during the challenging period, which will make the good times we aim to share together in the future all the more sweeter.”

Carlton Head of Football Brad Lloyd said to have the commit of Peterson was a great boost for the Club.

“Great people with strong character and resilience are exactly who we want to build this program around moving forward and Kerryn well and truly fits that mould perfectly,” Lloyd said.

“Kerryn never takes a backwards step and cares so deeply about this football club, always wanting to see her teammates get the best out of themselves.

“To have Kerryn show such strong faith to remain with us gives, the whole group a boost for the direction we are all determined to head towards together.”
