CARLTON has named its team for its first MCG semi final since 2001.

Named for his first AFL game since Round 17, Matthew Kennedy will return to the Blues’ line-up as one of two changes to the starting 22.

Joining Kennedy as an elevation is Jesse Motlop, who was activated as sub last weekend: the duo replaced the unavailable Harry McKay (concussion) and Jack Martin (suspension).

Kennedy injured his knee against Fremantle back in early July, but after a rehabilitation process which saw him feature at VFL scratch match level last weekend, will return to the fold in front of over 90,000 people.

What role Kennedy plays remains to be seen, with AFL Senior Coach Michael Voss flagging that the Blues could tweak a few things in the forward mix given those who are unavailable.

A stint up forward wouldn’t be unfamiliar to Kennedy, who played the role in late 2019 and kicked 11 goals - including a career-high four majors - from his eight games.

The Blues also have the option of sending Brodie Kemp and Mitch McGovern into attack, giving Voss options as the Blues look for their second finals win in as many weeks.

It’s a strong-bodied midfield group once again for Carlton, with veteran Sam Docherty and last week’s hero Blake Acres looking likely to man the wings, while Nic Newman and Jacob Weitering - who were excellent the last time these sides met in Round 22 - will lead the way down back.
