RISING defender Caleb Marchbank will lead the Blues in the inaugural AFLX tournament on Friday night at Etihad Stadium.

Marchbank has been named captain of Carlton’s exciting AFLX side, joined on-field by the likes of Jack Silvagni, Tom Williamson and Jed Lamb.

New recruits Matthew Kennedy, Paddy Dow and Lochie O’Brien will also run out for the first time in the navy blue.

The Blues play Melbourne and North Melbourne in games one and two respectively.

The 21-year-old said he was looking forward to seeing the next wave of exciting Blues on show on Friday night.

“Dale Amos and Tim Clarke took me into the coaches room late yesterday afternoon to tell me so it was pretty exciting,” Marchbank said.

“It’s not something I was expecting but I’m honoured to captain the inaugural AFLX side and I’m really excited to see what tomorrow night will bring.

“It’s an exciting new concept that will be fast and free-flowing. I’m excited about the boys in our team and the skills that they will be able to bring to the new style of game.

“The group of players we have in our team are fast and skilful so I can’t wait to see how we go. There’s a lot of unknowns but that also adds to the excitement.”
