FOLLOWING the last game of the season, Senior Coach Mathew Buck has plenty to take out of his first season at the helm.

Here's what he had to say.

Reflecting on the season

“The game probably reflects our season a little bit, plenty of good that we can take away and plenty of improvement areas that we can get after.

“We’ve got a lot of things that we’d like to improve and going into next season with more time, we can put better systems in place. In a way, it’ll be great to have that extra time to be able to have a great reflection and see what did work and what do we need to change and what do we want to bring in with the time that we’ve got.

"We’ve had such a transformational change around the whole place, so it takes a while to stick but overall we’re really proud of our effort today, as disappointing as we feel right now. But there’s some good stuff there that we can take out as well”.

On their skill execution

“We felt like we were getting a lot of stuff right, it was just that little execution that was hurting us late, but that’s a long-term project with skill execution and skill fundamentals that we will get to work on.

On playing Harriet Cordner forward

“It was a bit of a throw-around of the magnets today, started well but fizzled out toward the end. Harriet is such an exciting and durable player that can play in any position.

"A great defender who has been important for us all year but has done some ruck work when Jess Good went down, and then a sneaky look forward today to see if that’s something we can move to in the future, but that might be in the reflective piece over the time off”.

On Mimi Hill’s game and season overall

“I thought Mimi was great today, used the ball off half back and played a little bit of a different role for us again, maybe having a little look at what the future could look like.

"Overall ‘Mim’s’ captaincy as a 21-year-old was exceptional, she’s had to carry a big load here at the Club for a little while and it's great to see her grow under the tutelage of Belinda Clarke, who leads our leadership program."

On Brea Moody’s season

“There have been some great forwards in the comp, but as a utility as someone who can play as a ruck and as a forward there’s none better, I would think, who can have impact up both ends.

"I think 'Moods' has had a low-key great year to be honest, really hard match-up to play on up forward, and has kicked some terrific goals today through the middle.

"She’s also one of our leaders around the footy Club and again has had some exceptional growth in that area. What’s probably underrated is the impact she’s had on Jess Good by being able to play forward has exposed Jess to more ruck time and Jess has really stood up in that and has added an extra bow to our side which is terrific”.

On Phoebe McWilliams

“An icon and a pioneer in the game. Someone who played at three different clubs had an impact at all three and I wish her all the best in the future."
