THIS forward line caper sounds pretty good if you ask Zac Williams.

In the lead-up to last week’s clash with Sydney, Williams was asked to fill a role he only played sporadically during his time with GWS.

With Matthew Cottrell, Jack Martin and Jesse Motlop sidelined, Williams returned to the team and was thrown into the forward line, kicking a goal against the Swans in Round 10.

It was persisted with against Gold Coast, and the results spoke for themselves.

Kicking a career-high four goals in the guernsey designed by his cousin Stewart James, it was almost too good to be true for the boyhood Blue.

“Every time it came off my boot, I wasn’t sure if it was going in or not,” Williams told FOX Footy post-match.

“To be honest, I’ve missed a lot of football — I’m happy to play a role anywhere. The boys really looked after me. I’m surprised I kicked four — I think it’s the first time ever, I’ll take it!”

It continued a happy knack of Williams hitting the scoreboard in Sir Doug Nicholls Rounds. Williams has played in four Indigenous Round games for the Blues, and hit the scoreboard in all four of them.

In fact, of his 10 goals that have come in Carlton colours, seven of those have come in Sir Doug Nicholls Rounds.

The Narrandera local celebrated his second goal in style, but it was a common theme throughout the day, with Williams revealing a directive from Michael Voss to get the positive energy going at Marvel Stadium.

“We had a big conversation about getting around each other when a goal is kicked, or where there’s pressure with a tackle or anything like that. Celebrate the little things.

“I know that’s really cliche, but we went back to keeping it simple.”

Is there anything else Williams has learned in his current relocation to the forward line?

“Just listen to Charlie and Harry!”
