WITH both teams looking for their first win of the season, Carlton left nothing on the table in what was a competitive match against Geelong.
Starting off with a dominant first term, Sophia McCarthy kicked the first goal of the game, followed by Lucy Burke, who slotted two for the quarter. Both players put up excellent contested marks in the forward line.
AFLW-listed Brooke Vickers was a leading force in the game with 10 tackles, as well as having efficient ball control.
The Blues dominated both offensively and defensively, with the ball barely seeping inside the Cats' forward 50 as the first term ended with a 20-point lead to the away side.
Vice-captain Amy Trindade led the disposals with 30 for the game, while Carlton made use of their AFLW-listed players Amelia Velardo and Lila Keck alongside Vickers.
Velardo stood strong in the backline with a total of 15 disposals while Keck and Vickers dominated the forward line, both kicking a goal in the second term.
Keck slotted a major set-shot goal 40 meters out while Vickers kicked a difficult goal from inside the pack, while Burke was on fire, kicking her third goal of the game.
By half time, the Blues were leading by 37-points. Keeping pressure on the Cats by continuously landing crucial tackles, the Cats were unable to kick a goal until the third term.
Throughout the match, Grace Matser was a looming presence in contests, while Tahlia Plunkett worked around the ground well with her ball movement.
Geelong upped their pressure in the third term, scoring three consecutive goals, but despite their push back, Carlton led by 19 points at the end of the third.
Coming into a competitive fourth term, both teams were putting in their best efforts. Keck ultimately kicked the Blues' last goal, making it her second of the day.
The Blues sustained their pressure for the whole match as they obtained 276 disposals to the Cats' 187.
Vickers finished the game with 27 disposals and 12 contested marks -- an impressive outing for the 22-year-old.
Carlton continues their season with their first home game next Saturday 3 May at 1:05pm (AEST) against Sandringham.
