SAM Walsh, the Red.

Don’t stress, Carlton fans. The co-vice captain is still very much at home in Navy Blue - but when it comes to one of his other great passions, the Blues’ No.18 is more than happy to wear a Liverbird upon his chest.

A lover of the round-ball game, Walsh was one of a number of his teammates - including Adam Cerra, Jesse Motlop and Corey Durdin - who were revelling in Liverpool’s Premier League success earlier this week.

Given the Sunday evening game and a six-day break, Walsh didn’t watch the title-clinching win over Tottenham live, but still made sure to avoid any spoilers for the early wake-up.

“I was a very happy Reds supporter. Because we’ve got a six-day break, I didn’t check my phone and watched it at 6am the following morning,” Walsh told SEN.

“It was a good feeling. Because I’m living the life of an AFL player, that’s my chance to be a true fan.

“I’ve been pretty fortunate because Liverpool have been going well. I can see how Carlton fans are so passionate - I’m a bit like that with Liverpool! I try to keep my players’ hat on and know that it’s a hard game… but it’s easy to get tied up in the emotion.”

He said his Liverpool affiliation started with the Reds’ most iconic player alongside Kenny Dalglish - and while he hasn’t been able to slip a Liverpool celebration into his game-day repertoire just yet, we’re not ruling it out.

We also think his close mate ‘Cez’ may have had something to do it with it as well.

“I was getting into soccer at around 15 or 16, and came across this Steven Gerrard video on YouTube. I fell in love with the way he went about it, and his mindset - from there, that was going to be my team.

“I was lucky enough to travel to Liverpool in the off-season and watch a game against Chelsea. I had a true appreciation of what Anfield brings, that was a pretty cool experience.
Closer to home, he’s hoping some of that passion shines through for the Blues’ trip to Adelaide Oval this week.

“We’ve got to bring the heat and silence the crowd early. There’s Carlton supporters everywhere we go which is nice - we’ll get a few of them up and about.”
