THE VFLW celebrated Sir Doug Nicholls Round in Round 6, seeing both sides wear their Indigenous guernseys for the clash.

In a high-intensity game, the Seagulls defeated the Blues by a mere 12 points, 3.3 (21) to 5.3 (33).

Ellie Sbeghen played her first game for the season, while Summer Hall made her Carlton debut, previously playing for GWS VFLW and East Coast Eagles.

The Seagulls came barging into the game, scoring their first goal only 12 seconds into the first term.

Only minutes later, Matilda Fitzgerald made a smart connection to Danika Di Santo, which got the ball to forward Tahlia Plunkett, kicking the Blues' first goal of the day.

Williamstown proved to be a high-speed team as Carlton were forced to push their midfielders into defensive roles, leading the first term ending 1.0 (6) to 2.3 (15) to Williamstown.

Hannah Scott was all over the ball tallying 23 disposals, 16 kicks and 5 marks. Octavia Di Donato laid 12 tackles and Mia Fuller 11, as both worked defensively and laid crucial tackles throughout the day.

Coming into the second quarter, both teams fought for the ball as the play moved around the ground, neither team scoring until 10 minutes into the term.

The Seagulls were able to steal another two goals, with the away side leading 1.1 (7) to 4.3 (27) at half time.

Throughout the third term, the Blues were playing more aggressively, resulting in three shots at goal, which were the only scoring opportunities from both sides.

A terrific tackle from Kira Lemire inside Carlton's forward 50 led to a set shot at goal for the 18-year-old, securing her first goal in her VFLW career.

Ellie Sbeghen, in just her second game of VFLW football, had two consecutive shots at goal, unfortunately kicking two behinds.

After gaining ground, the Blues came into the last quarter with only 18 points the difference, 2.3 (15) to 4.3 (27).

Sophia McCarthy started the quarter strong with an important goal, setting back the margin to 12 points.

Carlton were able to continuously push the ball in the forward line, but were unable to get another score on the board.

A high-intensity game, the Blues just narrowly missed the win as the Seagulls used their speed to their advantage and came home with the win.
