CARLTON will field two new Blues for Thursday night’s clash with Port Adelaide.
Confirmed by AFL Senior Coach Michael Voss prior to the team announcement on Wednesday, Billy Wilson and Flynn Young will make their respective AFL debuts.
Wilson’s main weapons are his pace and his ball use across half-back, earning his shot on the back of a consistent run of performances in the VFL which has seen him named among the Carlton Reserves’ best players consistently in the last four weeks.
Recruited with pick No.34 in the 2023 AFL Draft, Wilson has played 24 games for the VFL Blues since the start of last year and hasn’t dropped below 22 disposals over the last six weeks.
He will be joined by Flynn Young, marking a meteoric rise for the mid-season recruit who was selected by the Blues this time last month.
Producing his best performance to date over the weekend, Young had 19 disposals and two goals for the Carlton Reserves, capping three straight performances of hitting the scoreboard.
A high half-forward, Young will wear No.45 when he runs out on Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.
The pair become Carlton’s sixth and seventh AFL debutants for season 2025 - the first time since 2017. Wilson will become Carlton player No.1249, and Young Carlton player No.1250.
