ASHTON Moir has earned the Round 19 Telstra AFL Rising Star nomination in just his sixth AFL game.
Named in Carlton’s best in the game against Melbourne, the 20-year-old was a dynamic presence up forward, embracing the occasion of a close game at the MCG by slotting four goals to help his team get the win.
Moir has started the last three AFL games on the back of strong VFL form, kicking 16 goals across his 11 matches this year, with the pick No.29 in the 2023 Telstra AFL Draft earning a spot in the senior side.
Making his debut in Round 23 last year against West Coast Eagles, he quickly showcased his talent, earning a Goal of the Year nomination for his debut goal - a remarkable scissor kick over his head.
Moir joins fellow teammate Cooper Lord, who was nominated in Round 10, as a 2025 Telstra AFL Rising Star nominee.
Moir’s emergence has come with a strong injection of youth into the side this season, which has seen the Blues produce seven AFL debutants - the equal-most for the Club since 2017 – while also fielding their youngest side of the season on the weekend.
AFL Senior Coach Michael Voss said Moir's development over the past year is a testament to his dedication and hard work.
“The development coaches have done an unbelievable job with Ashton, who went to work on his game, and the last few weeks he has been steadily building,” Voss said.
“Ashton’s got some x-factor about him. His flexibility in the air and agility at ground level, along with his versatility to play as small as well as tall, can provide a real point of difference in our front half.
“We saw the sheer effort Ashton put in, to see him in the third quarter score that goal - it was a pivotal moment for us and when it arrived, Ashton took that moment for our Club.
“He is a great person and team player: we are excited to see what he can continue to produce - along with our other emerging players - as the back end of the season unfolds.”
